Welcome
Welcome to the 2023-24 Advanced Placement Program (AP)
The Advanced Placement® (AP®) program (the program is comprised of a class and an assessment) allows students to challenge themselves with college-level rigor in a high school environment.
The AP class (there is a wide variety of AP Subjects) is a rigorous course that tries to approximate college level demands. Each AP Course has a national assessment associated with it.
If a student performs at a certain level on the assessment, they may be eligible for college credit. The goal is to connect students to college success through allowing them to take college-level classes while still in high school.
AP Office Location
The AP Office is located inside the College and Career Center. The College and Career Center is located next the Counseling Office, between the Performing Arts Center and Administration Building.
There is an AP informational board right outside the College and Career Center, as well as one inside.
These boards will be updated with information as we get closer to exam dates.

Attendance
Attendance during AP exams:
- Students are excused from their Carlmont High School classes for the scheduled time of their AP tests.
- There is no need to call in the absence for the test itself; the AP coordinator; Ms. Ortiz manages those absences.
- For any absences for classes prior to the start of the exam, or after the completion of an exam, the attendance office must be contacted by the family.
- No shows will be reflected in IC and will need to be cleared with Ms. Zarco in the attendance office.

College Board Accommodations versus Carlmont Accommodations
Did you know that the AP exam is a College Board exam?
Therefore students with an IEP or 504 must apply for College Board accommodations.Students with Carlmont accommodations do not receive accommodations for AP exams unless approved by the College Board.Only students with approved College Board accommodations will receive them on exam day, no exceptions. Students who have an IEP or 504 do not automatically have College Board testing accommodations.

College Board Accommodations
How do I apply for College Board Accommodations for my student?
Students who have an IEP or 504 do not automatically have College Board testing accommodations. All paperwork is to be given to Brenda Gildo bgildo@seq.org, 650-595-0210 x 30021 - SSD Coordinator at Carlmont High School.
We encourage students to submit paperwork as early as possible.

Purchasing
AP exam purchasing is now closed.
AP exams must be purchased through the Total Registration website:
Exams may be purchased October 2, 2023 7AM (Monday) – October 13, 2023 4 PM (Friday)
Late exam purchasing will be in March 4th to March 8th 2024. Purchasing ends at 4pm on March 8th, 2024
No exams can be purchased after March 8th, 4pm. No exceptions.
Students who cancel an exam by Tue - Mar 12, 2024 are entitled to a refund of the exam fee minus a cancellation fee of $50.00 (per exam cancelled).
Exams may be canceled up to one week prior to the exam date but there will be NO Refund.
Parking
- Please park your car in the designated lot that you have a permit for.
- Do NOT park in staff parking.
- Do NOT park in the junior lot unless you have a permit for that lot.
All parking lot rules will be enforced.

FAQ
What do I need to bring on exam day?
- Photo ID (Your name on your College Board account MUST be the same name on your ID.)
- Water bottle/snack (in a clear Ziplock bag)
- No. 2 pencils (No mechanical pencils. No exceptions)
- Blue or black in pen
- Approved calculators for math exams
DO NOT BRING THE FOLLOWING TO YOUR EXAM:
- Electronic equipment including phones, smartwatches, fitness trackers, wearable technology, cameras, recording or listening devices, or any other type of electronic or communication device.
- The only exceptions to the above restrictions are laptops or other devices specifically permitted to be used for in-school digital testing.
- Books, reference guides, notes, compasses, protractors, mechanical pencils, pencils that are not No. 2, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, or colored pencils.
- Scratch paper: Students testing in-school are prohibited from bringing scratch paper to the AP Exam, but scratch paper will be provided.
- Watches that beep, make a noise, or have an alarm.
- Computers or calculators that are not approved.
- Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions.
- Ear plugs.
- Clothing or shoes with subject-related information.
